Workshop on
“Machine Learning Applications
in the Electric Power Industry”
12 July 1999

Workshop Objectives

The Workshop aims to present current Machine Learning activities in the
Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electric Energy. It helps
to bring together people from the Electric Power Industry and the
Artificial Intelligence Community by providing a forum for exchanging
ideas, techniques, latest technology and trends.

Workshop Background

The improvement of modern power system operation and control presents
particular interest nowadays, as systems are focused to operate closer
to their physical limits. The new developments in the area like the
increasing introduction of dispersed, renewable generation and the
liberalization of the energy markets brings new planning and operational
problems. ML techniques can significantly contribute in the solution of
these problems.

The Workshop topics include ML Applications in solving problems of
Electric Power Industry such as:
- Load Forecasting
- Unit Commitment and Economic Dispatch
- Security Assessment
- Alarm Handling
- Machine Parameter Identification and Diagnosis
- Transformer Manufacturing
- Planning
- Maintenance
- Modeling and Control
- Condition Monitoring and Protection
- Other ML Applications in Electric Energy

Submission Format

Interested authors are requested to submit one-page abstract before the
25th February 1999. The abstract should start with the title, authors,
full address, fax and e-mail. The authors are requested to clearly state
the problem examined and the ML method used as well as to discuss the
benefits of their approach.

Authors of accepted abstracts will be asked to provide a camera-ready
version of their paper maximum 10 pages before 30 April 1999.

Submission should be sent (preferably by e-mail) to:
