Hi UAI folks,

I am teaching a course in risk analysis and decision theory at Department of
Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering at the Technical University of
Denmark. In the course we seek to solve all the risk analysis and decision
problems using Bayesian Networks - we are using HUGIN - instead of the
traditional fault tree or event trees. At the end of the course (June) the
students are supposed to file a paper describing the modeling and results of
an analysis of a selected topic. To mention a few of the topics selected by
the students so far I can mention: Evacuation and rescue from a passenger
vessel in the event of a fire; Impact of emissions from an incineration
plant; Sustainability of energy resources. This year many of my students are
not Naval Architects but from other disciplines. Among these there is a
group of 7 Polish guest students whose main interest is on
telecommunication. I have no knowledge on telecommunication, and no contact
to that industry, and this is my reason for contacting UAI.

I prefer the students to be working on a topic of their own interest, and
therefore would appreciate if anyone had some suggestions for relevant
assignments from the telecommunication area (or other areas) for my Polish
students. The students will be working in groups of two and they are
expected each to spend some 100 hours working on the topic. The report on
the selected topic will, of course, be available to the person who suggested
the topic.

Cordially,

Peter Friis
