a short course given by Trevor Hastie and Rob Tibshirani,
Stanford University

ONLY OFFERING IN EUROPE IN 1999

Technische Universitaet Muenchen, Munich, Germany, September 16-17, 1999
(Oktoberfest begins September 18, 1999!)

This two-day course gives a detailed overview of statistical models for
regression and classification. Known as machine-learning in computer
science and artificial intelligence, and pattern recognition in
engineering, this is a hot field with powerful applications in finance,
science and industry.

This is a very popular course, normally offered only twice a year in the
U.S. The Munich course is the only offering in Europe in 1999.

At our recent course in Chicago, participants were asked to rate the
course on a scale from 1 (poor) to 5 (outstanding).
The median score was 5! [The mean was 4.6, with a sample size of 55]
