STATISTICAL MODELLING AND ANALYSIS OF GENETIC DATA

                Wednesday 22 May, 2002, 2pm

at the Royal Statistical Society lecture room
               12 Errol Street, London EC1Y 8LX.

The Research Section of the Royal Statistical Society is organising a
joint meeting with the British region of the International Biometric
Society on STATISTICAL MODELLING AND ANALYSIS OF GENETIC DATA.

Registration (free) is required for this meeting. A registration form
appeared in the April edition of RSS news, and is also available at
    http://www.maths.soton.ac.uk/staff/JJForster/RS/registration.pdf

The following papers will be read before the Society.
In the tradition of RSS Ordinary Meetings, papers presented at the
meeting will be published in JRSS, with discussion.

    KW Broman and TP Speed
A model selection approach for the identification of quantitative
      trait loci in experimental crosses

    P Fearnhead and P Donnelly
Approximate likelihood methods for estimating local recombination
    rates

B Larget, DL Simon and JB Kadane
Bayesian phylogenetic inference from animal mitochondrial
      genome arrangements

    G Nicholson, AV Smith, F Jonsson, O Gustafsson, K Stefansson and P
    Donnelly
Assessing population differentiation and isolation from single
      nucleotide polymorphism data

G Parmigiani, ES Garrett, R Anbazhagan and E Gabrielson
A statistical framework for expression-based molecular
    classification
      in cancer

Abstracts, and electronic copies of the papers are available from
    http://www.maths.soton.ac.uk/staff/JJForster/RS/genetics.html
Hard copies are available by request from Anna Mair
    (a.mair@rss.org.uk)
    at the RSS.

The presentation of the papers will be followed by a 30 minute break
for tea, after which the vote of thanks to the authors will be
    proposed
    and seconded.

Fellows and visitors will then be invited to contribute to the
    discussion.
Contributions must not exceed 5 minutes speaking time and 400 words
    for
publication in the journal (excluding details of any references
    quoted).
It may be possible to accommodate slightly longer contributions from
    those
wishing to discuss more than one paper; in such cases application
    should be
made in advance to the Research Section Secretary, Jon Forster
    (J.J.Forster@maths.soton.ac.uk).

Written versions should be sent to the Executive Editor at the RSS, 12
    Errol
Street, London, EC1Y 8LX, to arrive no later than 2 weeks after the
    meeting.
If time allows, contributions received before the day of the meeting
    may be
read out on behalf of anyone who cannot attend.

Although we will try to accommodate all discussants who wish to speak
    at the
meeting, it may not be possible and those who inform us in advance, on
the registration form or by emailing Anna Mair (a.mair@rss.org.uk)
will be called first. Written contributions will be published in the
    Journal.

Following the meeting, at about 7pm, there will be an optional buffet
    dinner
(14 pounds per head, payable in advance by enclosing a cheque with the
    registration form).
