Scope

WiMAX/WiBro is a rapidly emerging wireless broadband access technology that provides connectivity to the data services the same way cellular phone infrastructure does to voice services. WiMAX/WiBro offers data rates similar to those obtainable via DSL and Cable, which enables high-speed connectivity to support various services and applications with different QoS requirements, such as data, video/audio live multimedia streaming, and mobile TV. To ensure its success, WiMAX/WiBro technology must deliver significantly better performance than those currently-available technologies, such Wi-Fi and 3G/cellular. For this to happen, there are several key technical challenges that must be addressed, such as mobility and handover support, service multiplexing, reliability, QoS, spectral efficiency, and security robustness. This symposium seeks papers describing research contributions that address and study the above challenges, ranging from theory to practice, from architecture to algorithms, and from policy to management. Technical papers describing original, previously unpublished research (not currently under review by another conference or journal), are solicited. Topics include, but not limited to:

    - QoS support for WiMAX/WiBro: techniques, algorithms, and management

    - Security for WiMAX/WiBro

    - Multimedia and VoIP over WiMAX/WiBro

    - Seamless connectivity/handoff/mobility between WiMAX/WiBro and 3G/3.5G/4G/Wi-Fi networks: architecture and algorithms

    - Performance analysis and optimization of WiMAX/WiBro systems

    - Application platforms and Middleware for WiMAX/WiBro services

    - OFDM/OFDMA techniques for WiMAX/WiBro PHY architecture
    - MIMO techniques for WiMAX/WiBro

    - Networking and network architecture for WiMAX/WiBro

    - MAC and multiple access techniques for WiMAX/WiBro

    - Cross-layer designs and techniques for WiMAX/WiBro

    - Energy aware protocols and techniques for WiMAX/WiBro

Submission Guidelines

Authors are invited to submit original papers of no more than 6 pages (standard IEEE proceedings, two-column, 10 pt font, etc.), including figures, tables, and references, in PDF format. Accepted papers will be published in the IWCMC09 conference proceedings, which will be included in IEEE Xplore. Submission implies that at least one of the authors will register and present the paper at the conference. Electronic submission is accepted through the EDAS web site at http://www.edas.info/.
