Paul Bieganski, Ph.D.
Chief Technical Officer, Net Perceptions Inc.

Paul is CTO of Net Perceptions, a company that builds tools that incorporate data mining, analytic, and recommendation technologies. He has been involved with the high tech industry for more than 15 years, spanning a broad range of products and industries. Prior to joining Net Perceptions, Paul was vice president of Research and Development for Signum Systems, an embedded systems development tools manufacturer in Los Angeles. Prior to his role with Signum, Paul served as vice president of Research and Development for Advanced Medical Systems, a medical devices company.  In 1994, he co-founded TeleMedical, Inc., a company specializing in remote monitoring of lung and heart-lung transplant patients. While launching TeleMedical, Paul also found time to pursue post-doctoral research in computer science and computational biology. His research included work on the GroupLens project, which eventually became the foundation of Net Perceptions' core recommendation technology. Paul has a doctorate in computer science from the University of Minnesota and received a post-doctoral fellowship from the National Science Foundation. He's published numerous articles on algorithmic technology for computer analysis and manipulation of genetic sequences.
 

Michael Pazzani, Ph.D.
CEO & President, AdaptiveInfo

        University of California, Irvine

Michael J. Pazzani is  CEO of AdaptiveInfo, a company that builds personalization software or the wireless web that automatically prioritizes information displayed for each individual user. AdaptiveInfo's customers include the Los Angeles Times, Recycler, and VentureWire. Dr. Pazzani received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from UCLA in 1987 and is on leave from a full professor position at the University of California, Irvine. Dr. Pazzani is the author of 2 books and over 100 technical papers on personalization, machine learning and recommendation systems.
