PrerequisitesCS 549 or equivalent, ASP.NET, network programming.Course ContentsIn this course, we will study how to construct Web-based database applications that include map interfaces and mobile computers. Components of such an application are a relational database, a Web server, a geospatial data server, an Internet map server, a wireless network, and pocket or hand-held computers equipped with GPS units. Software subsystems we will use are SQL Server, ASP.NET, ArcGIS, ArcSDE, ArcIMS, and Smart Device Extensions for Embedded Applications. Organization and manipulation of geospatial data, creation and management of Internet map services, and methods for connecting hand-held devices to the Internet will be covered. A course project and student presentations will be important parts of the course, and students need be willing to gather information, mostly from the Web for, their projects and presentations.
