Senior Design Projects & Honors Theses

Interested students are encouraged to contact Dr. Apte for these or other projects. Current OSU undergraduate students interested in Opportunity Plus program are especially encouraged as funding may be available for one-year MS program at OSU. Students will get hands-on experience on advanced research in CFD and an opportunity to interact with OSU graduate students in CFPL working on this and related projects.

  • Designing a Thin Flat Airfoil for High Lift: This work involves designing a flat airfoil for high lift and low drag forces. Applications include Micro-Air Vehicles (MAVs), Unmanned Vehicles, among others. The team will work closely with Dr. Apte's research group as well as the experimental group advised by Prof. Jim Liburdy. As the first step, the team working on computational modeling of separated flow over flat airfoils will generate flow data that will be validated against the physical experimental data. The computational technique will then be used to quantify lift characteristics at different flow conditions.
