If you don't care for the Unity interface (I sure don't!) this provides 
a nice "sorta-kinda" Windows 7 style interface and window manager which 
is much more usable, convenient and it just makes sense.

sudo apt update
sudo apt-get install gnome-session-flashback
//you will see a bunch of downloads
sudo apt install gnome-tweak-tool
//more downloads

//reboot Ubuntu
//login to Ubuntu but make the selection next to the gear symbol for flashback (metacity).

You are all set.
