    The Department is a dynamic and expanding group within one of
    Australia's
    top research-intensive engineering schools. Programs are offered at
    both
    undergraduate and postgraduate level, including the Bachelor of
    Computer
    Science, the Bachelor of Engineering (Software Engineering),
    the Master of Information Technology and research Masters and PhD.
    Current research interests and strengths include distributed
    systems,
    graph theory, knowledge discovery and data mining, software
    engineering
    and software visualisation.
            
    The Position
             
    A Professor in one or each of the above fields is required to
    provide
    strong academic leadership within the Department of Computer Science
    and
    Software Engineering. As the successful applicant, you will be
    heavily
    involved in the ongoing development of the Department's research
    activities and industry links, as well as new entrepreneurial
    initiatives
    at local, national and international levels.
             
    The Person
             
    You will have:
    * a PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related
    discipline;
    * demonstrated research excellence with a strong
    publication record and success in gaining external research grants;
    * proven abilities in providing academic administrative
    and strategic leadership;
    * ability to establish constructive links with industry;
    * experience with undergraduate teaching, curriculum development
    and postgraduate supervision in computer science and/or software
    engineering;
    * excellent communication skills; and
    * an ability to interact and collaborate with researchers and
    colleagues.
           
             
    Benefits
             
    Academic Level E $A93,405 per annum. A market loading may be
    negotiated depending upon experience and qualifications. In
    accordance with The University of Newcastle Enterprise Bargaining
    Agreement 2000, increases of 3% on 1 March 2001, 3% on 1 March 2002
    and 3.6% on 1 February 2003 will be payable.
             
    Compulsory contributory superannuation is a condition of employment
    plus generous employer contribution of 17%.
