EURASIP JOURNAL ON APPLIED SIGNAL PROCESSING
Special Issues on
MULTIMEDIA OVER IP AND WIRELESS NETWORKS
Multimedia - an integrated and interactive presentation of speech,
audio, video, graphics, and text - have become a major driving force
behind today's information technology that merges practices of
communication, computing, and information processing into an
interdisciplinary field. Meanwhile, Internet protocol (IP) is
becoming the common denominator for multimedia services and wireless
access grows very rapidly recently. However, the intrinsic natures of
the IP and wireless networks impose some necessary tradeoff between
QoS guarantee and resources utilization efficiency. Therefore,
multimedia over IP and wireless networks face many challenges.
Two special issues will be published to address the challenges of how
to deliver multimedia applications in a cost effective, ubiquitous
and QoS levels/classes adaptive manner. One special issue will focus
on multimedia over IP networks, another one on multimedia over
wireless networks.
Original research papers are solicited from the following list of
possible topics:
* Scalable coding and multiple description coding for multimedia over IP
* Joint source-channel coding techniques
* Efficient transcoding techniques for heterogeneous networks
* Power-optimized multimedia coding and transmission
* Resource allocation and QoS for multimedia transmission
* Flow management (fairness, differentiated services, etc.)
* Fairness in heterogeneous networks and rate control
* Multimedia traffic modeling and shaping for efficient network utilization
* Multimedia over next generation Internet
* Multimedia over GPRS, 3G and emerging 4G wireless networks
* Content- and location-aware techniques for multimedia transmission
* Network-adaptive multimedia communication
* Watermarking and security for IP applications
* Multimedia database over IP
* Terminal and server architecture for Internet radio and TV
* Wireless system issues (mobile IP, hand-off issues, etc.)
* Multicasting technique for multimedia communication
* Wireless media streaming and synchronization
* Overlay networks and distributed delivery of multimedia content
* Standards and protocols for multimedia delivery over Internet or
wireless networks (MPEG-4, MPEG-7, MPEG-21, H.26L, H.323, RTP, RTSP,
SIP, SDP, etc.)
