                                   KES'2002
                      Sixth International Conference on
                   Knowledge-Based Intelligent Information
                            & Engineering Systems
                          16, 17 & 18 September 2002
                       Podere d'Ombriano, Crema, Italy

Special Session: Machine Learning in Bioinformatics
                  http://www.dsi.unifi.it/~paolo/kes02.html

                               Call for papers

This special session aims at presenting and discussing
state-of-the-art algorithms and methodologies in computational
molecular biology where machine learning plays a key role. Topics of
interest include (but are not limited to) applications of machine
    learning to:
o Protein folding and protein structure prediction
o Gene expression data and DNA micro-arrays
      o Protein-protein interaction
o Finding signals and motifs in DNA sequences
      o Inference of genetic networks
o Analysis of gene structure and regulation
      o Phylogenetic analysis
      o QSAR and QSPR

    Submissions

Papers should be submitted in electronic format (preferably in PDF,
but PostScript, or MS-Word are also acceptable formats) to
    kes02@dsi.unifi.it, using the subject-line "KES02 Special Session
submission". Papers must be formatted as detailed in IOS Instructions
for the Preparation of a Camera-Ready Manuscript (see
    http://www.bton.ac.uk/kes/kes2002/instruct.doc). LaTeX and Word
    templates are available at
    http://www.iospress.nl/site/navfr/authcofr.html. The maximum length of
papers is five pages (when prepared according to the IOS
instructions). Longer papers will be subject to an additional page
charge. Please note that final versions of accepted papers must be
submitted in hard copy. All papers must be presented by one of the
authors, who must pay the registration fee. For more information about
the general conference please see http://www.bton.ac.uk/kes/kes2002/.
The session papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings
(IOS Press, Amsterdam, the Netherlands). Extended versions of selected
papers will be considered for publication in the KES Journal
(International Journal of Knowledge-Based Intelligent Engineering
    Systems).

    Important Dates
    Submission deadline : March 15, 2002
Notification of acceptance: April 15, 2002
    Deadline for camera-ready papers: May 15, 2002
