CALL FOR PAPERS
The Sixth International Conference on
Knowledge-Based Intelligent Information
&
Engineering Systems
--- KES 2002 ---
http://www.brighton.ac.uk/kes/kes2002/
Special Session on
"Soft Computing Techniques for Computer Graphics"
Podere d'Ombriano, Crema, Italy
16, 17 & 18 September 2002
Hosted by the University of Milan
Theme of Special Session
------------------------
Computer graphics techniques allow to synthesize 2D images and 3D models of a
scene and effectively manipulate them. The achievement of a highly realistic
result is still one of the main challenges faced by computer graphics.
One of the main avenues of research is to explore the use of models
reconstructed starting from data captured (measured) from the real world.
However, the capture process introduces several technical problems which limit
the quality of the result. These are due, for example, to measurement errors,
not complete datasets, reliable fusion of multi-source data.
Soft computing provides tools for effectively tackle these problems by
taking advantage of its inherent parallel processing paradigm, which is
well suited to the large datasets common in computer graphics. Moreover soft
computing is suitable to incorporate in the processing stages a-priori
knowledge
about the processing tasks.
This Special Session will focus on soft computing-based procedures, which
are of potential interest for improving the quality and easyness of
manipulation
of computer graphics models.
Special session topics include (but are not restricted to):
- AI techniques for real object digitization,
- 3D models simplification,
- synthetic characters
- tools for texture retrivial/synthesis
- behavioral animation
- avatars
- 2D image representation
- video processing
- augmented reality
- volume rendering
Deadlines
---------
* Receipt of papers: 15 April 2002
* Notification of acceptance: 15 May 2002
* Camera-ready papers: 1 June 2002
Submission of papers
--------------------
Papers may be submitted for review in electronic form by email, in Microsoft
Word, postscript or PDF format. Alternatively, send three paper copies by
post.
In any case papers must correspond to the requirements detailed in IOS
Instructions for the Preparation of a Camera-Ready Manuscript
(http://www.brighton.ac.uk/kes/kes2002/instruct.doc).
A LaTeX Style file can be found on the IOS web site
(http://www.iospress.nl/site/authco/book.html).
The maximum length of papers is five pages, prepared according to the IOS
instructions. Longer papers will be subject to an Additional Page charge.
Electronic copies of the papers in Word, PDF or PS form are acceptable for
review purposes. However, please note that you will be required to send
camera-ready hard copy of the final paper; electronic submission of the final
paper is not acceptable.
Publication
-----------
The session papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings (IOS
Press, Amsterdam, the Netherlands).
Extended versions of selected papers will be considered for publication in
the KES Journal (International Journal of Knowledge-Based Intelligent
Engineering Systems).
