The EPT29 Image Database

This database contains 4842 images of 1613 specimens of 29 taxa of EPTs: Ephemeroptera (mayflies), Plecoptera (stoneflies), and Trichoptera (caddisflies). The data are available for download in the following formats:

High resolution TIF images Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3. Resolution is 2560 by 1920.
Binary Segmentation Masks.
Segmented bugs aligned to canonical pose. The alignment was performed by fitting an ellipse to the segmented bug and then scoring the two possible orientations of the major axis using a trained SVM. Oriented Images.
SIFT descriptors on regular sampling grid of single step size. The grid spacing is adaptive to bug size to ensure roughly 300 detections on each specimen.
SIFT descriptors on regular sampling grid of multiple step size. Multiscale SIFT extract patches 1,2,4 times the basic size. A SIFT descriptor is also extracted for an ellipse fitting the entire bug.
Beam angle shape descriptors for each bug.
