Biography: 

Alan Xiaolong Wang received his B.S. degree from Tsinghua University, and M.S. degree from the Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, P.R. China, in 2000 and 2003, respectively, and his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 2006.

From January 2007 to August 2011, he was with Omega Optics, Inc., Austin, Texas, where he served as the Chief Research Scientist with more than 4 million dollars of research grants from various government agencies, including National Science Foundation (NSF), Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), Defense Advanced Research Project Agency ( DARPA), Army Research Office (ARO), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and National Institute of Health (NIH). Since September 2011, he has been an assistant professor at Oregon State University in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

  1. Nano-photonic devices: Photonic Crystals and Surface Plasmonics
  2. Optical sensing for biomedical research and environmental protection: Raman Scattering & Infrared absorption
  3. Board level optical interconnects and on-chip optical interconnects
  4. Silicon photonics: guided wave modulators, switches, and power efficient devices
  5. Innovative micro- and nano-fabrication technology
  6. RF photonic devices and systems
