Fall 2001
Instructor: Thomas K. (Tom) Plant, Associate Professor of ECE
Office: 205 Owen Hall -- just off main ECE office
Email address: tkp@ece.orst.edu
Office hours: MWF 3-4 and by appointment
Lab TA: Doug Ericksen -- "Office" in class lab, Dearborn 300, OH’s TBA
Lecture Classes: MWF 2-2:50 pm in Owen 106
Laboratory: 3 hours weekly - 1 hour demonstration/quiz sessions on Tuesdays at 9 am or 2 pm plus 2 hours in teams by sign-up. Laboratory will be held in Dearborn 300. Six defined laboratories: (photodetectors, lineshape measurements, longitudinal modes, transverse modes, TEMoo or Gaussian mode, semiconductor lasers/LEDs) 3-week team design projects: Free-space, high quality optical communication systems. Prizes to winning team!
Prerequisites: Vast enthusiasm and curiosity! Also, some knowledge of electromagnetic wave propagation and basic optics (lenses, reflection, refraction) helpful
