Grading and Homework Policy

Grades will be computed using the following weights.

  • 20% Homework
  • 10% Quizzes (2x5%)
  • 15% Midterm Exam
  • 25% Project
  • 30% Final Exam

Grades are assigned using the following standard ranges, after rounding.

≥ 93% = A 90–92% = A-
87–89% = B+ 83–86% = B 80–82% = B-
77–79% = C+ 73–76% = C 70–72% = C-
60–69% = D
≤ 59% = F

Overall grades will not be curved. However, scores on individual quizzes and exams may occasionally be adjusted upward by a constant factor for the entire class.

All quizzes and the midterm exam are closed book and closed notes. For the final exam you may bring one page of handwritten notes (standard paper size, double-sided is fine).

Teamwork on homework is allowed and encouraged. Teams of two or three students may submit a common homework so long as all members are clearly identified on the submission. All students in a team must contribute to a team solution and will receive the same grade. Adding the name of a student who has not contributed to a solution will be regarded as cheating. All team members must be able to explain their homework contribution to the instructor.

Please note that late homework may not be accepted. Be sure to submit your assignment on time!
