First announcement
--------------------------

Dear collegue,

In September 1997 in Rostock, the first international and interdisciplinary workshop on geomedical systems, GeoMed, was held. That workshop gathered statisticians, geographers, epidemiologists, computer scientists, and public health professionals, to discuss various methods and systems of spatial analysis, as well as the results of such analyses.
Nowadays, more and more issues are arising in public health which involve geography and medicine. The geographical atlas of global changes related to health consequences needs international assessment. Epidemics cross boundaries, and WHO is in charge of monitoring and controlling them by promoting international coordination and collaboration.
A second international worshop, GeoMed'99, will be held in Paris, on November 22-23 1999. Scientists will share new findings, debate the issues, and propose an agenda for research.
