Thrust 1: Nano-Photonic Devices for High-Speed and Energy-Efficient Optical Communication

     The objective is to explore nano-scale photonic structures, such as photonic crystals and surface plasmons to achieve next generation photonic devices with ultra-high bandwidth and low energy dissipation to meet the challenge of future optical communication systems.

Thrust 2: Nano-Photonic Sensors for Biomedical Diagnosis and Environmental Protection     

     The objective is to explore various nanophotonic structures, including bio-inspired nanostructures, to develop various optical sensors with ultra-high sensitivity and better surface functionalities.

Thrust 3: Advanced Optical Metrology Technologies      

     The objective is to use commercially available telecommunication optical devices to measure the properties of innovative materials, and probe the dynamic process with high time resolution to resolve the challenges of various industrial applications.
