Hi there its a pleasure to meet you! Thank you for stopping by and checking out my website. If you couldn't tell by that ginormous header in the beggining, my name is Andy James.

I currently go to oregon State University and am studying applied computer science. My interests in the feild are mostly back-end engineering and just simply continuing to learn how to improve my skills in developing software. As of now, I am a Junior on track to graduating in June 2024, but the internship program I am in (MECOP) may push that to 2025.

Device repair

Starting around 2019, I accidentally dropped my phone onto the countertop (Let it be known that I have dropped it from far higher distances but this 1-foot drop decided to break it). I either had a choice to buy a whole new phone (too much money) or replace the screen. I ended up deciding on researching how to replace the screen and had a lot of enjoyment while doing it.

From there, I decided to try and start a little business around fixing phones. I mainly worked on iPhones ranging from the model 6 to model X (with a couple 3's in there, those seem like bricks now). This included replacing screens, batteries, Bluetooth modules, sim card readers, malfunctioning buttons, and more. I also repaired some apple watches, which was one of the most tedious tasks. I would mostly re-sell these devices on my online store, but some were commissioned to be fixed. Unfortunately, this has led to a graveyard of random parts in my room that I am still pondering on how to use.

Online Selling Business

Around 2018-2019 we had just gone on a trip to Japan. There, I got a good amount of merchandise, and as many would relate, had a bit of buyer's remorse when I returned. I decided to try and sell some of my items online to see if I could get some of my money back, and to my surprise, I was able to sell it higher than what I bought them for.

Later, I was able to acquire more merchandise at a steadier rate and acquired a greater amount of sales. With this, I had to deal with customers, packaging, communicating, listing products, shipping, time management, and a plethora of other tasks. My small business has allowed me to communicate with many different people across the US which has greatly benefited my communication skills, along with many other attributes from running it myself such as managing, timeliness, and research In the future, I hope to grow this bigger and switch to a different site where I can get products directly from wholesale and be able to expand more realistically.

Piano

I have been playing piano for around 15 years at this point. Currently, this is one of my favorite activities to just relax my brain and enjoy some (somewhat rough) music at the same time. I was taught classical music for most of my piano career and was able to reach level 10 in the piano syllabus. Recently I have been playing more varieties of songs, from movie songs, to pop songs, and have been enjoying playing in public at the Memorial Union at Oregon State University. If I had a go-to classical song, I would say that My favorite are the Chopin nocturnes, and my favorite all-time song is Merry Go Round of Life from Howls Moving Castle. Here is me recently playing (there are a lot of mistakes please go easy) Merry go Round.

Swimming

The best sport out there, good on the joints, all-around body toning, and free disinfecting water to boot! I swam for around 10 years competitively but Unfortunately had to stop due to OSU not having a swim team. My favorite stroke was the breaststroke, and my least favorite was the butterfly (I still don't understand how people like it).
