4% of your final grade will be determined from participation on the discussion forum. The weight of the projects will be reduced to 36% of your final grade. At the end of the quarter, we will look at the distribution of forum participation. We will bin you according to your participation (1 point per comment) by standard deviations from the mean. Let m be the mean and let s be the standard deviation of the distribution. Of the 4 % of your grade:
if you are in the range | you will earn |
---|---|
<=m-3s | 0 |
(m-3s,m-2s] | 1 |
(m-2s,m-s] | 2 |
(m-s,m] | 3 |
(m,m+s] | 4 |
(m+s,m+2s] | 5 (1% bonus on your final grade!!) |
> m+2s | 6 (2% bonus on your final grade!!!) |
The course TA's may mark discussion comments as unhelpful, in which case (if the comment isn't improved) the comment will be removed. That is, only useful, helpful, thoughtful comments are welcome.
