Admission control algorithms have been widely researched for many years to guarantee the Quality of Service (QoS) for multimedia applications over the Internet. With the recent surge of wireless home networks, it is increasingly important to employ the admission control mechanisms in order to enhance the performance of the wireless multimedia applications. In this research, we investigate different admission control schemes and MAC protocols to support QoS for single hop and multi-hop wireless networks. To be useful, we aim to develop admission control schemes and MAC protocols that require minimal change to the existing IEEE 802.11 standards.
